Quickly Noted: Anthrax Case Solved?
Dr. Bruce Ivins, of USAMRIID,was about to be charged by the FBI for carrying out the 2001 anthrax letters attack. Then he committed suicide.
The FBI originally had Dr. Steven Hatfill as the main “person of interest” in this case, but midway through the investigation, as the lead FBI investigators changed, the focus of the investigation changed from Dr. Hatfill to Dr. Bruce Ivins. The FBI was tipped off because of unauthoized anthrax clean-ups by Dr. Ivins at Fort Detrick (where he worked and where the anthrax spores used in the attack were grown) in the changing area, his office and two other areas (presumably the trail of how he got the spores off the base).
None of the stories I’ve read on this yet have mentioned a motive.
