Mike Leavitt’s Blog

September 6, 2008

I know this isn’t exactly in the realm of this blog, but tangentially, definitely.

I do not agree with most of what Mike Leavitt, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, says. We have differing views on the goals and objectives of the health and human services can provide, and on the manner in which it is provided.

That said, I love his blog. It’s an on the ground account of the work that HHS does, all around the world. He’s posted on an African tour, while visiting rural Alaskan clinics, and now most recently, from the Hurricane Gustav response.

His latest is on the successes and ongoing efforts to respond to Gustav. Really cool stuff, and since it’s from the HHS secretary, it focuses a lot on the particular challenges faced by hospital and healthcare providers and the special needs populations. One thing that constantly amazes me is healthcare evacuations, which he mentions happened with success in preparation for Gustav’s landfall.

Keep up the good work, Mr. Secretary.
