Deepwater Horizon Spill: Intro

May 27, 2010

The catastrophe happening in the Gulf right now (and for the last month, and probably for months to come) is so huge, I can’t find a good place to begin to talk about it. There are so many facets that require examination that it’s simply overwhelming. As bits and pieces come up, I hope to take a peek at the topic at hand and offer some insight.

While this is ultimately a public health and environmental disaster catastrophe, the public information part of this is exceptionally interesting to me. It’s such a vital part to this response that I would argue it’s an operational goal. The Deepwater Horizon series that this post starts will focus on the public information aspects of the response and clean up.

As always, if you see some angle that I don’t, or some unique way things are happening, please do forward them to me. This is a once-in-a-lifetime for all of us to learn from, literally, The Worst Case Scenario.
